Mount Shasta, CA, based artist, Britt Welin’s compositions occupy a space between an imaginative realm and abstraction. Acrylic paint, colored pencil, soft pastel and fragments of Welin’s own computer paintings all make appearances in her mixed media works. Welin sees her practice as meditations on perception as she interacts with local nature through the lens of primordial language. During the 1990’s Welin collaborated with ethnobotanist Terence McKenna on multiple projects, including Alien DreamTime. From that work she developed an interest in visually exploring McKenna’s ideas of language being the source of all culture.
